Scrapbooking with kids - 10 half term tips
Kids love sticking things into scrap books. It does not matter to them if they are professional scrap books or simply pads or home made books.
1. Have a safe pair of scissor per child or if they are too young, an adult on hand to do the cutting
2. Make a book cover by folding a piece of paper of card in half
3. Make page insets by folding several sheets of printer paper
4. Find some photos of your digital camera or digital archive with your child that they want to cut out. Good suggestions are - their best friend, their family, their birthday, their holiday etc
5. Collect all the photos you want to print and insert them into a document like powerpoint or word, resixing to make the photos smaller so they will fit on the book pages
6. Make sure you have plenty of glue, either crafting glue or glue sticks work really well
7. Cover the table they will work at with newspaper
8. Print the photos - from the powerpoint or word document onto your inkjet printer. If you do it this way rather than one picture per sheet you will save time, money and also have the photos the right size for scrapbooking
9. Have a theme for your scrapbook - maybe a half term holiday
10. Make sure you have enough inkjet cartridges, it would be a real shame to prepare all the photos for printing, and then to not be able to print them on your inkjet printer because you did not have a spare inkjet cartridge. Check out great deals for cartridges, many are free , all you pay is postage at

Know About your Inkjet Cartridges Author: Editor-123
The origin of inkjet cartridges dates back to 1980s, to print images on blank paper. Being slightly expensive than other types of ink cartridges, inkjet cartridges possess the capability to get refilled easily.
Usages of Inkjet Cartridges
The main benefit of using inkjet cartridges is to get quality images or any print transaction, and other activities related to printers. In this cartridge system, the inkjet printer puts small droplets onto blank paper through nozzles to create any image or text. The amount of the droplet is usually decided by the printer driver software placed in the printer. Normally, a cartridge can be found in various colors as in liquid form to develop a colorful/black and white image on printable paper.
Inkjet printers are designed in such a way to provide you printing stickers, labels, posters, and documents. In addition, the benefits of inkjet cartridges can be used in developing attractive images on shoes, T-shirts, etc.
Problems of using un-branded inkjet cartridges
If you are looking for a quality inkjet cartridge, you must be careful about many points that will help you to get best pictures and other images. Therefore, it becomes necessary to have complete information before actually putting your money into the right inkjet cartridges.
First of all, it is necessary to determine the quality content of inkjet cartridges, which is responsible for increasing the productivity level, but also offer better and quality prints. So, it is better to avoid purchasing local or average inkjet cartridges, as these kinds of cartridges may create problems in the nozzles of the printer. A well-suited and branded inkjet cartridge, especially ISO standard, can be efficient and perform better than cartridges that are available in the market. In addition, inkjet cartridges usually come in individual size to fit into the particular printer. Buying a quality inkjet cartridge also gives you warranty (minimum one year). So, if you desire to buy a new inkjet cartridge, take proper notice to get the relevant information.

Advanced Techniques For Unclogging Print Heads by Richard Sherland
Dealing with a clogged print head can be frustrating but this is no time to get into a hurry. Cleaning solvents can take many hours to do the job. And remember your trying to save the life of a printer. If all fails you printer may be ready for the printer graveyard. I'm talking about printers with the built in print heads here. It's probably best to explain the different types of printers now.
There are two rough categories of printers one with the print head built into the printer. For example Epson some Xerox and Canon .The other are Hp and Lexmark, which have the print heat built into the cartridge.
On most of the printers with built in print heads it is a major job to remove the print heads so all of our cleaning methods are with them left in the printer.
Most of the clogs that occur while you are printing aren't severe. The ones that are in many cases tough are when the printer has been sitting for a long time without being used. In this case the ink can dry as hard as a rock.
The first thing to do is to run the print head cleaning cycle 3 to 5 times. If you don't know how to do this check your manual or check online for a manual if you don't have one. After running the cleaning cycles, check the print out for the slightest change for the better. If it's getting better let it cool for a few minutes and continue. If it stays the same or gets worse move on to the next method.
Epson recommends running the cleaning cycle several times then printing a test page. Don't print a test page after each cleaning cycle on a tough clog. It does waste more ink this way but is necessary when you have one that is badly clogged.
If you still have problems its time to move on to more advanced methods. On Ebay you can purchase a Cleaner Called E.K.S. in small quantities. I'm in no way affiliated with this company by the way. Just type in Epson head cleaner and it will come up. This cleaner will work for all other brands also. I recommend that you keep some of this on hand if you have this type of printer.
Normally if you open the printer cover you can't move the print heads around. So here's what we do. Turn on the printer and watch the print heads move around while they are still moving unplug the power cord. Now you can move the print heads back and forth with your fingers. Take a piece of paper towel and cut out apiece about 3 inches long and 1 and a half wide. Fold this accordion style until you have a strip about one half inches wide. This isn't critical.Put some of the head cleaner on the paper towel and lay the paper down flat and move the print head until it's over the paper. You may have to work at this there's not too much extra room to get the paper under there. The wet towel will stay moist for several hours and keep the head wet with solvent. This is one of the most powerful ways of getting the job done.
Check the towel every few hours and if it's dried out apply a little cleaner with a syringe. Let it sit at least overnight for a real stubborn clog. Leave the printer cartridges out because it can wick all of the ink out of the cartridge. Apply a little of the solvent to the little pins that go up into the cartridge to keep this area wet also. Use the cleaner sparingly as you don't want to get this cleaner down onto the circuit boards. This would cause a short and maybe ruin the printer.
When you get ready to run a print test remember that it may take awhile for the print head to get filled with ink so it might not print on the first tries even if it's unclogged. There is one other method that techs use. Get a short length of one-eighth inch clear plastic tubing at a hardware store. Hook this onto a syringe. Slip the plastic tubing over the little pins the ones that go into the cartridge. Then push in on the plunger to try to force air through the print head. Always push the air through don't try to suck air through by pulling on the plunger.
If the printer is under warranty you could just send it back for repairs instead of going through this. But if not under warranty it will probably cost you more than it's worth to send it to the factory, as they will many times replace the print heads. If you don't have any of the recommended cleaner and it's an emergency you might try a solution of 50% distilled water and 50 % ammonia. Well good luck I hope this helps.

Understanding How An Inkjet Printer Works - Copyright © 2006-2007 Rich Martin
Computer printers are great when they work correctly, but when they do not work as they should, they can become a real source of frustration. If you know how an inkjet printer works, then you are likely to have fewer problems with it and you are more likely to be able to make simple repairs to the printer yourself.
Inkjet printers are the cheapest printers that you can buy, and because of this many people elect to purchase them instead of the more expensive laser printers. An inkjet printer places very small droplets of ink onto a page that it is printing. The droplets are so small that they are nearly invisible to the naked eye. It is by putting a number of these tiny droplets together that you can see an image or print on your printed page.
The inkjet printer, and other printers like it, never actually touches the piece of paper where it is printing. Instead the inkjet printer uses a series of nozzles to spray the ink onto the page, and thus gives you the final image that you see on the paper.
Since inkjet printers never actually touch the paper they are considered to be "non-impact printers". Typewriters on the other hand used a solid impact to place the image on the page. The actual shape of the letter or number from a bar on the typewriter would hit a ribbon and push the ink onto the page.
There are a variety of other types of non-impact printers, but many of them are rarely used or are considered too expensive. Often, you can find an inkjet printer for under $50 and this helps make the inkjet printers more appealing to most consumers.
Inside the printer you will find many different parts. The print head is the main part of the printer; it contains a series of nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper. There is also a print head stopper motor that moves the print head back and forth across the paper while printing. A belt attaches the print head to the print head stopper motor, and a stabilizer bar is used to stabilize the print head.
Inside the printer you will also find the paper feeder and the paper rollers as well as a paper feeder stepper motor. The paper feeder stepper motor synchronizes the movement of the paper with that of the print head so that the images that are printing appear on the correct place of the page. Most of the newer inkjet printers are using a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port to connect to your computer, but there are still quite a few older models that use a parallel port.
When you purchase a new inkjet printer, it will come with a disc that you will need to install the software onto your computer. Once you place the disc into your computer it will activate an installation wizard. Generally the installation wizard provides some very easy-to-follow instructions on how to place the software into your computer.
The only hardware that you will actually need to install in the inkjet printer is a power cord to an electrical socket, a cord from the printer to your computer (either a USB port or parallel port), and then you will need to install the ink cartridges, leaving you with only the paper to load.
For people who have never used a computer printer before, the main things they are interested in when learning is how to load the paper and how to replace the ink cartridges. For the average computer printer owner, these are the only maintenance tasks they will need to carry out during the life of the printer.
The actual ink cartridges will vary according to the particular model and brand of printer that you have. Some brands have one ink cartridge for black and one for all other colors; some printers have only one cartridge that contains all colors, including black. Yet, other models will have a separate ink cartridge for every primary color.
When you buy a new printer, be sure and read the box to see if the printer comes with ink cartridges or not. It would seem apparent that every new printer would come with ink cartridges included, but that is just not the case. When you do have the need to replace the ink cartridges, you want to be absolutely sure that you get the correct replacement cartridges. Different brands and models of printers use different ink cartridges. I have found it best to remove the old ink cartridge and check the part number to be absolutely sure that I get the correct replacement ink cartridges for my printers.
If you are willing to
buy your replacement ink cartridges in advance of your current cartridges running out, then you can expect to save some big money by buying your ink jet cartridges from internet retailers.
Don't take my word for it, shop around and compare prices. You might be surprised to see how much some of your local stores are marking up these essential computing products.
Knowing how you will use your printer will help you to decide what type of printing paper to purchase. If you intend on printing a large number of photos you may want to get a higher quality photo-paper. If you are a college student using a printer primarily for term papers, then a lower quality paper will usually serve your needs just fine.
You can find inkjet printers made by a variety of manufacturers at a wide variety of prices. You can spend as little or as much as you want on an inkjet printer.
Your purchase decision will greatly depend on how you plan to use your printer. Again, if you plan on creating photos or business cards with your printer, you may want to opt for a higher quality model, but if you simply want to print out some papers, then it might make better sense to go with a less expensive printer.

Given the progress in inkjet and media technology, demand for printing photographs and art on canvas is growing exponentially. Whether you have a good inkjet printer or you prefer to have your work done by a professional outfit, it is worth to explore this option for any type of image. We constantly receive requests from wedding and portrait photographers who want to print large canvas for their clients.
Artists regularly order limited edition prints on canvas and watercolor papers to sell to collectors. These reproductions usually are signed and are accompanied by a COA (Certificate of authenticity). Buyers are very receptive to purchasing canvas prints they can hang up without a protective glass, without worrying about scratches and water damage.
The texture of a fine art canvas is unparalleled in beauty; a protective coating is applied on top to give the substrate a matte, lustre or glossy look. If you prefer to experiment with this material to see the results, canvas sheets are available at many stores that carry inkjet products.
The differences between a home desktop printer and a professional one are many but I will focus on the most important. First, commercial machines can be outfitted with pigmented inks; these inks differ from dye inks commonly found in the cheap home printers because they are archival and will not fade for decades. Dyes on the other hand will start losing brilliance in a matter of months. There are some home use printers now that offer a form of hybrid dye/pigment system. The second difference is the nozzle quality; pro level systems have extremely sophisticated nozzles that can render a very fine dot and exceptional tonal rendition.
The process of printing on fine art materials such as canvas and watercolor papers is referred to as "giclee". Giclee is a french term that loosely translated means "sprayed on". It refers to the nozzles which spray ink onto the paper. Giclee printing involves some of the characteristics described above and it is usually performed by professional shops.
You can read more about giclee and
fine art canvas printing on our website.

Benefits of Recycled and Remanufactured Ink Cartridges
by
GreenOfficeStore.com By Darrel R.Green Office Store.com's Associate Content EditorSeptember 1, 2007
Millions of empty toner and inkjet cartridges used in printers, fax machines, and copiers are discarded every year and end up in landfills or incinerators. Buying remanufactured toner and inkjet cartridges, and recycling empty cartridges, is an easy way for businesses to reduce the environmental impact of these discarded products and often save money at the same time.
Using Better Ink Cartridges
Any office equipment that uses a
replaceable toner or
inkjet cartridge can use remanufactured cartridges. Remanufactured toner and inkjet cartridges save resources by reusing components instead of disposing of them after one use. Remanufactured cartridges offer clear advantages over new cartridges in terms of cost and waste reduction. They are suitable for use in many printers, copiers and fax machines. The quality of remanufactured cartridges has improved dramatically since these products were first introduced in the 1990s. High-quality remanufactured cartridges now undergo a process that renders cartridges equivalent in performance, print quality and page yield to new models and that meet all original equipment manufacturer standards and specifications. Furthermore, using remanufactured cartridges will not void manufacturers' warranties on these products as was once believed.
Recycled Ink CartridgesRecycling toner and inkjet cartridges is a process of collecting, sorting, cleansing, treating, or reconstituting for the manufacture of new products or the remanufacture of used cartridges. The typical used toner cartridge is composed of primarily plastic, metal and small portions of rubber, paper, foam and toner. The plastic alone takes at least one thousand years to decompose. However, approximately 97 per cent of these combined components can be recycled or reused.
Popular Brands of Remanufactured Ink Cartridges
Leading
ink cartridge and
toner cartridge manufacturers, such as Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, and Brother have instituted environmental programs. For example, the Hewlett Packard Planet Partners LaserJet supplies program, in operation since 1992, has helped customers recycle over 39 million HP LaserJet cartridges worldwide, which represents approximately 50,000 tons of material diverted from landfills. Lexmark, through its Cartridge Collection Programs, recovers millions of used cartridges to be either reused or recycled. They have various methods of return and sponsor unique collection partnerships around the world. Their program is designed to ensure that empty Lexmark print cartridges are properly recovered, reused or recycled; resulting in less solid waste and fewer resources consumed. And Brother International Corporation currently has a program in place to collect used Drum Units, Toner and Ribbon Cartridges, Ink Cartridges, and P-touch Tape Cassettes. They provide free prepaid shipping labels on their website for the return of these consumables.
As environmental awareness grows and consumers demand requires greater accountability from manufacturers, toner and cartridge recycling and the purchase of remanufactured cartridges have become common practices in offices throughout the world.

Buying Printer Cartridges
Printing has become an absolute necessity for people all over the nation and world these days. Whether a person needs to print an essay for a school project or a business plan to present to their peers, having a reliable method of translating work done on a computer to a sheet of paper is a must. One important part of a printer that often gets overlooked in the process, however, is the printer cartridge. Containing the ink necessary to write lines and create diagrams on a blank sheet of paper, printer cartridges are something that no printer can be without. It is important, therefore, that anyone who plans on using his or her printer on a continuous basis have a reliable method to replace their printer cartridges when they inevitably dry out of ink.
One of the most common mistakes that is made is to buy a printer cartridge only after the previous one has become useless. The simple truth is that these cartridges are often very expensive and are not always easily acquirable. Because of these attributes, there are several strategies to employ when purchasing printer cartridges for the future.
The first thing to remember is that
printer cartridges come in a great variety and that a person can’t just plug the first one they see at the store into their printer and expect results. You have to buy a printer cartridge that is compatible with your printer, or you will have wasted your time and money. For example, if you own a Canon printer, it would be foolish to buy a Lexmark printer cartridge. If you are not sure about which cartridges fit your printer, jot down the printer brand and model and ask a sales representative to help you out.
Also remember that while printer cartridges are quite expensive, it is best to get backups when they go on sale. If for example, you own a HP printer and see a sale on all HP and Epson printer cartridges during Thanksgiving, you should head down to the store and pick some up. There is no point in waiting until you really need the printer cartridge to buy them and paying double or triple the price. On a similar note, if the sale were for Xerox and Pitney Bowes printer cartridges, don’t buy them just because they are discounted. If the printer cartridges are not compatible with your printer, they are basically worthless. But overall, being a smart consumer and thinking ahead will do nothing but benefit you in terms of saving time and money.
Overall there are many different printer cartridges, from Xerox to Pitney Bowes, and many different printers, from Canon brands to Lexmark, which they can be used with. Knowing which printer cartridge to buy and taking advantage of sales can go a long way in ensuring that your printer will be working with high quality whenever it is needed!
