Keep printing over Christmas: Hints from www.cheapinkjetsolutions.co.uk

General

First things first. Calm down, be patient and in most cases you can get printing again quickly. If the advice here does not get you going then you should contact the manufacturers’ website or the supplier of your printer or cartridge depending on what the problem is.

It is very common on modern printers that when the printer was first set up on your machine, not only was a driver installed to allow the computer to communicate with the printer but also some form of help\ manual. For example Lexmark provide a Lexmark Solution Center. These solution centers, and they may go under various names provide easy to use information on how to get printing again. Typically they will provide advice on installing a cartridge, printing a test page, how to deal with blury streaks and horizontal lines, troubleshooting, maintenance, how to check ink levels and other advanced options. To find your Solution Center or similar:
· From the Windows Start menu, select Programs.
· Select your printer.
· Select the support application for your printer, this may be called Help, Solution Center or something similar.
· Explore the various topics available.

Print Preview

We recommend the use of print preview to be confident what the output will look like before printing. This is always a good chance to check simple printing settings such as “Have I set to landscape or portrait correctly?”, for some advanced settings such as removing borders – there can be a difficult in controlling the output between the printer driver settings and a specific software application. Try removing the settings from the software application and rely on setting the printer driver application as you wish.

DOS Printing
Not all printers and drivers support DOS printing – check your manual, help centre or contact your technology provider.

Video Cards
One cause of slow response on the screen is the video driver. You need to check you have the latest video driver for your operating system. If you are unsure how t9o do this please ask your technology provider for help. If you are confident in updating this yourself you should be able to find the latest drivers on the vendors website.

Inkjet Cartridge problems
Inkjet cartridge problems require their own guide. But a common error is to forget to pull off the tape

Do you want to try and speed up your system?

Then try these tips…
· The fastest printing modes are those of lower quality – this is good as it will also make your inkjet cartridge last longer. Only use top quality on your final copies if you need it – otherwise use Print in Normal or Quick Print
· Surprisingly – just by removing unused fonts from your font folder will help – you can find your fonts folder via the control panel
· Your computer can print faster if it has less things to do at the same time, by closing software applications that you do not need, the printing program can work faster.
· Sometimes if you Increase computer memory the printer will work faster as it can then process the print job more quickly.

USB hubs can cause problems for printing
If you are using a USB hub to connect to your printer and you have problems connecting to the printer then try connecting directly and not using the hub

· To connect directly – remove all the cables including power from printer
· Wait for at least 30 seconds.
· Plug the Power Supply back into the printer.
· Check the printer is turned on.
· Restart your computer.

USB connections can sometimes behave oddly
If you have unplugged the USB cable, it is better to plug it into the same USB socket when you have more than one. We do not know why?

halftoning and color correction methods
Most printer drivers have built in routines to make the best print output possible given the printer. Some software applications also have built in routines to do the same thing. Often these two programs will compete and may interfere with each other. If you experience problems, make sure you turn off special printing correction methods within your software applications

When printing in high print quality the screen displays "Out of Memory" message
If this happens when printing in Photo print quality mode then try to use Normal print quality. Hopefully this will help get you printing again. You may also need to consider increasing memory allocation.

Windows XP/2000

How to Increase the Virtual Memory
Often by giving your computer some extra horsepower it will get printing better immediately. Guidelines vary on this but for many inkjet printers the baseline ismin 128 MB of RAM and Virtual Memory Initial Size to min 300MB and max 512MB.

Windows XP:
· Select Start-Control Panel.
· Select Performance and Maintenance and the System icon.
· Select the Advanced tab.
· In the Performance section, Select the Settings button.
· Select the Advanced tab.
· In the Virtual memory section, Select Change button.
· In the Paging file size for selected drive section:
· Change the Initial Size to at least 300MB
· Change the Maximum Size to at least 512MB.

Windows 2000:
· Select Start-Settings-Control Panel.
· Double-click the System icon.
· From the Advanced tab, select Performance Options.
· Select Change.
· From the Paging File Size for Selected Drive of the Virtual Memory section:
· Change the Initial Size to at least 300MB
· Change the Maximum Size to at least 512MB
· Click Set.

Ensure you do not run out of inkjet printer cartridges - search on http://www.cheapinkjetsolutions.co.uk/

http://www.cheapinkjetsolutions.co.uk/ provide this advice “as is” and are not responsible for the implementation. If you are at all unsure how to get printing again, then you must contact your printer provider for advice and support.

Best Five Reasons To Recycle Inkjet Cartridges

Recycling empty inkjet cartridges is an easy way for us to help to reduce the garbage we create.

Here the top 5 reasons to recycle your empty inkjet cartridges.

Shockingly, almost 3 entire pounds of resources involved in production are saved when a cartridge is recycled.

Number two, for every inkjet cartridge that is recycled, an average of 3.5 oz. of oil will be saved. Because of the worldwide demand for oil, a little conservation will make a dramatic impact over the long run.

Another reason you should recycle your empty inkjet cartridges, is to lower the amount of garbage. It takes several hundred years for an inkjet cartridge to break down. Estimates are that over 300 million printer cartridges are thrown into landfills every year. To put things into perspective, the 75,000 tons of waste it generates is equal in weight to over 30,000 African elephants.

The forth reason is the buying remanufactured (recycled) inkjet cartridges continue money. Recycling your empty cartridges provides empty cores to cartridge remanufacturing companies that in turn, professionally refill and sell to users at a discounted price. Consumers will see the same reliability, performance and quality as using an original brand OEM cartridge but at a lower cost.

Reason number five. It's very easy to recycle an empty inkjet cartridge. In fact, many of the companies out there that offer remanufactured cartridges actually have their own recycling programs you can take advantage of.

One of the most popular methods for people to recycle inkjet cartridges is through the use of postage paid return envelopes that are sometimes included with an online inkjet cartridge purchase.

A return mailer (recycle envelope) is generally a self-sealing plastic bag that is pre-addressed to a recycling company. The consumer puts their empty inkjet cartridge into the bag, seals it, and drops it off at a post office or any mailbox. The postage is pre-paid, and the whole process takes just a few seconds.

Another method of recycling is through the use of an inkjet cartridge refilling service such as the Jetpak mailer program.

With the Jetpak mailer program, the customer purchases a special refilling service mailer in advance. When the customer runs out of ink, they place the empty cartridge into the postage paid mailing box and drop it in the mail. When the cartridge refilling company receives the empty cartridge, the refilling service cleans, inspects, and professionally refills the cartridges and mails it back to the customer.

In about one week the refilled cartridge is returned. This provides a big savings over buying a new cartridge and also lowers the strain on our landfills.

Why recycle? Why not recycle?

It saves you money, saves natural resources, reduces the amount of garbage produced, and is the right thing to do for our environment.

Just because an empty inkjet cartridge is out of ink, doesn't mean it's broken.

It just needs recycling.
