How much ink cartridge ink will my inkjet printer use?

It can be pretty hard to understand how much inkjet cartridge ink will be used by your inkjet printer over the lifetime of use. To be frank, the majority of home users will tend to buy relatively cheap printers compared to 10 years ago. Under £100 is pretty common. The costs of inkjet cartridges can appear very high in comparison to the purchase cost.

There are some great offers in the market and it can be possible to get a free cartridge especially as a new customer.

We do recommend consumers consider the ongoing running costs, though we recognise it can be hard to fully understand this. In the USA, the American Consumer Insitute is leading the charge and have created an online calculator that will allow the consumer to compare the performance in terms of resource usage across many inkjet printers.

They standardise the comparison by using a test lab run by Quality Logic, and independent lab. The results give a sense of overall cost over time, taking into consideration several factors: the number of black-and-white pages you print a week, the number of color pages and the number of 4-by-6-inch photos

Currently the model is limited to 17 printers - but it is a good start.
