Keep printing over Christmas: Hints from www.cheapinkjetsolutions.co.uk

General

First things first. Calm down, be patient and in most cases you can get printing again quickly. If the advice here does not get you going then you should contact the manufacturers’ website or the supplier of your printer or cartridge depending on what the problem is.

It is very common on modern printers that when the printer was first set up on your machine, not only was a driver installed to allow the computer to communicate with the printer but also some form of help\ manual. For example Lexmark provide a Lexmark Solution Center. These solution centers, and they may go under various names provide easy to use information on how to get printing again. Typically they will provide advice on installing a cartridge, printing a test page, how to deal with blury streaks and horizontal lines, troubleshooting, maintenance, how to check ink levels and other advanced options. To find your Solution Center or similar:
· From the Windows Start menu, select Programs.
· Select your printer.
· Select the support application for your printer, this may be called Help, Solution Center or something similar.
· Explore the various topics available.

Print Preview

We recommend the use of print preview to be confident what the output will look like before printing. This is always a good chance to check simple printing settings such as “Have I set to landscape or portrait correctly?”, for some advanced settings such as removing borders – there can be a difficult in controlling the output between the printer driver settings and a specific software application. Try removing the settings from the software application and rely on setting the printer driver application as you wish.

DOS Printing
Not all printers and drivers support DOS printing – check your manual, help centre or contact your technology provider.

Video Cards
One cause of slow response on the screen is the video driver. You need to check you have the latest video driver for your operating system. If you are unsure how t9o do this please ask your technology provider for help. If you are confident in updating this yourself you should be able to find the latest drivers on the vendors website.

Inkjet Cartridge problems
Inkjet cartridge problems require their own guide. But a common error is to forget to pull off the tape

Do you want to try and speed up your system?

Then try these tips…
· The fastest printing modes are those of lower quality – this is good as it will also make your inkjet cartridge last longer. Only use top quality on your final copies if you need it – otherwise use Print in Normal or Quick Print
· Surprisingly – just by removing unused fonts from your font folder will help – you can find your fonts folder via the control panel
· Your computer can print faster if it has less things to do at the same time, by closing software applications that you do not need, the printing program can work faster.
· Sometimes if you Increase computer memory the printer will work faster as it can then process the print job more quickly.

USB hubs can cause problems for printing
If you are using a USB hub to connect to your printer and you have problems connecting to the printer then try connecting directly and not using the hub

· To connect directly – remove all the cables including power from printer
· Wait for at least 30 seconds.
· Plug the Power Supply back into the printer.
· Check the printer is turned on.
· Restart your computer.

USB connections can sometimes behave oddly
If you have unplugged the USB cable, it is better to plug it into the same USB socket when you have more than one. We do not know why?

halftoning and color correction methods
Most printer drivers have built in routines to make the best print output possible given the printer. Some software applications also have built in routines to do the same thing. Often these two programs will compete and may interfere with each other. If you experience problems, make sure you turn off special printing correction methods within your software applications

When printing in high print quality the screen displays "Out of Memory" message
If this happens when printing in Photo print quality mode then try to use Normal print quality. Hopefully this will help get you printing again. You may also need to consider increasing memory allocation.

Windows XP/2000

How to Increase the Virtual Memory
Often by giving your computer some extra horsepower it will get printing better immediately. Guidelines vary on this but for many inkjet printers the baseline ismin 128 MB of RAM and Virtual Memory Initial Size to min 300MB and max 512MB.

Windows XP:
· Select Start-Control Panel.
· Select Performance and Maintenance and the System icon.
· Select the Advanced tab.
· In the Performance section, Select the Settings button.
· Select the Advanced tab.
· In the Virtual memory section, Select Change button.
· In the Paging file size for selected drive section:
· Change the Initial Size to at least 300MB
· Change the Maximum Size to at least 512MB.

Windows 2000:
· Select Start-Settings-Control Panel.
· Double-click the System icon.
· From the Advanced tab, select Performance Options.
· Select Change.
· From the Paging File Size for Selected Drive of the Virtual Memory section:
· Change the Initial Size to at least 300MB
· Change the Maximum Size to at least 512MB
· Click Set.

Understanding How An Inkjet Printer Works - Copyright © 2006-2007 Rich Martin

Computer printers are great when they work correctly, but when they do not work as they should, they can become a real source of frustration. If you know how an inkjet printer works, then you are likely to have fewer problems with it and you are more likely to be able to make simple repairs to the printer yourself.

Inkjet printers are the cheapest printers that you can buy, and because of this many people elect to purchase them instead of the more expensive laser printers. An inkjet printer places very small droplets of ink onto a page that it is printing. The droplets are so small that they are nearly invisible to the naked eye. It is by putting a number of these tiny droplets together that you can see an image or print on your printed page.

The inkjet printer, and other printers like it, never actually touches the piece of paper where it is printing. Instead the inkjet printer uses a series of nozzles to spray the ink onto the page, and thus gives you the final image that you see on the paper.

Since inkjet printers never actually touch the paper they are considered to be "non-impact printers". Typewriters on the other hand used a solid impact to place the image on the page. The actual shape of the letter or number from a bar on the typewriter would hit a ribbon and push the ink onto the page.

There are a variety of other types of non-impact printers, but many of them are rarely used or are considered too expensive. Often, you can find an inkjet printer for under $50 and this helps make the inkjet printers more appealing to most consumers.

Inside the printer you will find many different parts. The print head is the main part of the printer; it contains a series of nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper. There is also a print head stopper motor that moves the print head back and forth across the paper while printing. A belt attaches the print head to the print head stopper motor, and a stabilizer bar is used to stabilize the print head.

Inside the printer you will also find the paper feeder and the paper rollers as well as a paper feeder stepper motor. The paper feeder stepper motor synchronizes the movement of the paper with that of the print head so that the images that are printing appear on the correct place of the page. Most of the newer inkjet printers are using a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port to connect to your computer, but there are still quite a few older models that use a parallel port.

When you purchase a new inkjet printer, it will come with a disc that you will need to install the software onto your computer. Once you place the disc into your computer it will activate an installation wizard. Generally the installation wizard provides some very easy-to-follow instructions on how to place the software into your computer.

The only hardware that you will actually need to install in the inkjet printer is a power cord to an electrical socket, a cord from the printer to your computer (either a USB port or parallel port), and then you will need to install the ink cartridges, leaving you with only the paper to load.

For people who have never used a computer printer before, the main things they are interested in when learning is how to load the paper and how to replace the ink cartridges. For the average computer printer owner, these are the only maintenance tasks they will need to carry out during the life of the printer.

The actual ink cartridges will vary according to the particular model and brand of printer that you have. Some brands have one ink cartridge for black and one for all other colors; some printers have only one cartridge that contains all colors, including black. Yet, other models will have a separate ink cartridge for every primary color.

When you buy a new printer, be sure and read the box to see if the printer comes with ink cartridges or not. It would seem apparent that every new printer would come with ink cartridges included, but that is just not the case. When you do have the need to replace the ink cartridges, you want to be absolutely sure that you get the correct replacement cartridges. Different brands and models of printers use different ink cartridges. I have found it best to remove the old ink cartridge and check the part number to be absolutely sure that I get the correct replacement ink cartridges for my printers.

If you are willing to buy your replacement ink cartridges in advance of your current cartridges running out, then you can expect to save some big money by buying your ink jet cartridges from internet retailers. Don't take my word for it, shop around and compare prices. You might be surprised to see how much some of your local stores are marking up these essential computing products.

Knowing how you will use your printer will help you to decide what type of printing paper to purchase. If you intend on printing a large number of photos you may want to get a higher quality photo-paper. If you are a college student using a printer primarily for term papers, then a lower quality paper will usually serve your needs just fine.

You can find inkjet printers made by a variety of manufacturers at a wide variety of prices. You can spend as little or as much as you want on an inkjet printer. Your purchase decision will greatly depend on how you plan to use your printer. Again, if you plan on creating photos or business cards with your printer, you may want to opt for a higher quality model, but if you simply want to print out some papers, then it might make better sense to go with a less expensive printer.

Best Five Reasons To Recycle Inkjet Cartridges

Recycling empty inkjet cartridges is an easy way for us to help to reduce the garbage we create.

Here the top 5 reasons to recycle your empty inkjet cartridges.

Shockingly, almost 3 entire pounds of resources involved in production are saved when a cartridge is recycled.

Number two, for every inkjet cartridge that is recycled, an average of 3.5 oz. of oil will be saved. Because of the worldwide demand for oil, a little conservation will make a dramatic impact over the long run.

Another reason you should recycle your empty inkjet cartridges, is to lower the amount of garbage. It takes several hundred years for an inkjet cartridge to break down. Estimates are that over 300 million printer cartridges are thrown into landfills every year. To put things into perspective, the 75,000 tons of waste it generates is equal in weight to over 30,000 African elephants.

The forth reason is the buying remanufactured (recycled) inkjet cartridges continue money. Recycling your empty cartridges provides empty cores to cartridge remanufacturing companies that in turn, professionally refill and sell to users at a discounted price. Consumers will see the same reliability, performance and quality as using an original brand OEM cartridge but at a lower cost.

Reason number five. It's very easy to recycle an empty inkjet cartridge. In fact, many of the companies out there that offer remanufactured cartridges actually have their own recycling programs you can take advantage of.

One of the most popular methods for people to recycle inkjet cartridges is through the use of postage paid return envelopes that are sometimes included with an online inkjet cartridge purchase.

A return mailer (recycle envelope) is generally a self-sealing plastic bag that is pre-addressed to a recycling company. The consumer puts their empty inkjet cartridge into the bag, seals it, and drops it off at a post office or any mailbox. The postage is pre-paid, and the whole process takes just a few seconds.

Another method of recycling is through the use of an inkjet cartridge refilling service such as the Jetpak mailer program.

With the Jetpak mailer program, the customer purchases a special refilling service mailer in advance. When the customer runs out of ink, they place the empty cartridge into the postage paid mailing box and drop it in the mail. When the cartridge refilling company receives the empty cartridge, the refilling service cleans, inspects, and professionally refills the cartridges and mails it back to the customer.

In about one week the refilled cartridge is returned. This provides a big savings over buying a new cartridge and also lowers the strain on our landfills.

Why recycle? Why not recycle?

It saves you money, saves natural resources, reduces the amount of garbage produced, and is the right thing to do for our environment.

Just because an empty inkjet cartridge is out of ink, doesn't mean it's broken.

It just needs recycling.

Printing on Canvas By: Fabio Braghi

Given the progress in inkjet and media technology, demand for printing photographs and art on canvas is growing exponentially. Whether you have a good inkjet printer or you prefer to have your work done by a professional outfit, it is worth to explore this option for any type of image. We constantly receive requests from wedding and portrait photographers who want to print large canvas for their clients.

Artists regularly order limited edition prints on canvas and watercolor papers to sell to collectors. These reproductions usually are signed and are accompanied by a COA (Certificate of authenticity). Buyers are very receptive to purchasing canvas prints they can hang up without a protective glass, without worrying about scratches and water damage.

The texture of a fine art canvas is unparalleled in beauty; a protective coating is applied on top to give the substrate a matte, lustre or glossy look. If you prefer to experiment with this material to see the results, canvas sheets are available at many stores that carry inkjet products.

The differences between a home desktop printer and a professional one are many but I will focus on the most important. First, commercial machines can be outfitted with pigmented inks; these inks differ from dye inks commonly found in the cheap home printers because they are archival and will not fade for decades. Dyes on the other hand will start losing brilliance in a matter of months. There are some home use printers now that offer a form of hybrid dye/pigment system. The second difference is the nozzle quality; pro level systems have extremely sophisticated nozzles that can render a very fine dot and exceptional tonal rendition.

The process of printing on fine art materials such as canvas and watercolor papers is referred to as "giclee". Giclee is a french term that loosely translated means "sprayed on". It refers to the nozzles which spray ink onto the paper. Giclee printing involves some of the characteristics described above and it is usually performed by professional shops.

You can read more about giclee and fine art canvas printing on our website.

Benefits of Recycled and Remanufactured Ink Cartridges

by GreenOfficeStore.com By Darrel R.Green Office Store.com's Associate Content EditorSeptember 1, 2007

Millions of empty toner and inkjet cartridges used in printers, fax machines, and copiers are discarded every year and end up in landfills or incinerators. Buying remanufactured toner and inkjet cartridges, and recycling empty cartridges, is an easy way for businesses to reduce the environmental impact of these discarded products and often save money at the same time.

Using Better Ink Cartridges

Any office equipment that uses a replaceable toner or inkjet cartridge can use remanufactured cartridges. Remanufactured toner and inkjet cartridges save resources by reusing components instead of disposing of them after one use. Remanufactured cartridges offer clear advantages over new cartridges in terms of cost and waste reduction. They are suitable for use in many printers, copiers and fax machines. The quality of remanufactured cartridges has improved dramatically since these products were first introduced in the 1990s. High-quality remanufactured cartridges now undergo a process that renders cartridges equivalent in performance, print quality and page yield to new models and that meet all original equipment manufacturer standards and specifications. Furthermore, using remanufactured cartridges will not void manufacturers' warranties on these products as was once believed.

Recycled Ink Cartridges

Recycling toner and inkjet cartridges is a process of collecting, sorting, cleansing, treating, or reconstituting for the manufacture of new products or the remanufacture of used cartridges. The typical used toner cartridge is composed of primarily plastic, metal and small portions of rubber, paper, foam and toner. The plastic alone takes at least one thousand years to decompose. However, approximately 97 per cent of these combined components can be recycled or reused.

Popular Brands of Remanufactured Ink Cartridges

Leading ink cartridge and toner cartridge manufacturers, such as Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, and Brother have instituted environmental programs. For example, the Hewlett Packard Planet Partners LaserJet supplies program, in operation since 1992, has helped customers recycle over 39 million HP LaserJet cartridges worldwide, which represents approximately 50,000 tons of material diverted from landfills. Lexmark, through its Cartridge Collection Programs, recovers millions of used cartridges to be either reused or recycled. They have various methods of return and sponsor unique collection partnerships around the world. Their program is designed to ensure that empty Lexmark print cartridges are properly recovered, reused or recycled; resulting in less solid waste and fewer resources consumed. And Brother International Corporation currently has a program in place to collect used Drum Units, Toner and Ribbon Cartridges, Ink Cartridges, and P-touch Tape Cassettes. They provide free prepaid shipping labels on their website for the return of these consumables.

As environmental awareness grows and consumers demand requires greater accountability from manufacturers, toner and cartridge recycling and the purchase of remanufactured cartridges have become common practices in offices throughout the world.

Earth friendly and environmentally friendly office supplies can be purchased online at GreenOfficeStore.com. GreenOfficeStore.com is your complete source for recycled, remanufactured and other office supplies. All the office products sold by GreenOfficeStore.com are either recycled or contain post consumer waste or pre consumer waste. A Basic Guide to Photography John Eva

Give a camera to anyone and more then likely, that individual will figure out a way to use it. However, tell the photographer to take a skilled photograph, and not everyone will know what to do. There are basic guides to photography that is easy enough for anyone to understand, and will have many people up and running with their various photography projects in no time.

One of the most important aspects to photography is to always take care of the camera that is being used. This means that the camera needs to be placed into a protective case, and kept in a cool, dry, and dark atmosphere, if possible. Exposing the camera to direct heat or sunlight can warp the film, if there is any, inside of the camera. With digital cameras, there is also a need to keep the camera in the shade, as heat can ruin the camera. Harsh conditions to the weather, such as rain and cold, should also be avoided.

Another important factor when it comes to photography is to let the imagination run free. Often times, we are too consumed with the right and wrongs of everything. With art, however, there are no limits to what can be created. Sometimes, the rarest occurrence can be captured with a photo. Photos can certainly speak a thousand words, and even the quietest of moment and emotions can be captivated on a photo instead of the spoken word. It is also important to keep a camera in tow when possible. This is because there are always one-chance opportunities that will appear in photography. Without a camera, many people will miss out on the chance to capture something that is truly great.

Knowing how to work with light that is outside or inside is also important. Having too much light in a photo can bleed out the images that are trying to be taken, while light that is absent in a picture can cast unwanted shadows, and the inability to see everything in the still frame. Creating positive angels for the various shots will also be of a large benefit for those that want to snap a great picture. Exploring with the angles and taking numerous pictures is a great way to have fun with a camera and photography.

To get the perfect print you also need to have good printer ink to get that perfect print out. An investment in a good inkjet printer is esencial to get a good print out. There is also services on the internet where you can uplaod your photos and they will post them back to you or you can take your memory stick into a shop and they will process them for you. This my be a cheaper alternative to using your own printer ink.

Many people are often timid when it comes to photography and the various forms that it can take on. Approaching the picture that is about to be taken with an open mind is the best way for many to enjoy their times that they have with photography. The basics of photography are simple, and can be explored as far as the mind can reach. With a camera and the right moment and image, anything is possible of being captured in time. A basic guide to photography is just that – basic. For those that may feel more comfortable doing so, there are classes that can also be taken to help with learning about taking pictures. With no limitations to the pictures, there are many adventures with photography that await many.

Buying Printer Cartridges

Printing has become an absolute necessity for people all over the nation and world these days. Whether a person needs to print an essay for a school project or a business plan to present to their peers, having a reliable method of translating work done on a computer to a sheet of paper is a must. One important part of a printer that often gets overlooked in the process, however, is the printer cartridge. Containing the ink necessary to write lines and create diagrams on a blank sheet of paper, printer cartridges are something that no printer can be without. It is important, therefore, that anyone who plans on using his or her printer on a continuous basis have a reliable method to replace their printer cartridges when they inevitably dry out of ink.

One of the most common mistakes that is made is to buy a printer cartridge only after the previous one has become useless. The simple truth is that these cartridges are often very expensive and are not always easily acquirable. Because of these attributes, there are several strategies to employ when purchasing printer cartridges for the future.

The first thing to remember is that printer cartridges come in a great variety and that a person can’t just plug the first one they see at the store into their printer and expect results. You have to buy a printer cartridge that is compatible with your printer, or you will have wasted your time and money. For example, if you own a Canon printer, it would be foolish to buy a Lexmark printer cartridge. If you are not sure about which cartridges fit your printer, jot down the printer brand and model and ask a sales representative to help you out.

Also remember that while printer cartridges are quite expensive, it is best to get backups when they go on sale. If for example, you own a HP printer and see a sale on all HP and Epson printer cartridges during Thanksgiving, you should head down to the store and pick some up. There is no point in waiting until you really need the printer cartridge to buy them and paying double or triple the price. On a similar note, if the sale were for Xerox and Pitney Bowes printer cartridges, don’t buy them just because they are discounted. If the printer cartridges are not compatible with your printer, they are basically worthless. But overall, being a smart consumer and thinking ahead will do nothing but benefit you in terms of saving time and money.

Overall there are many different printer cartridges, from Xerox to Pitney Bowes, and many different printers, from Canon brands to Lexmark, which they can be used with. Knowing which printer cartridge to buy and taking advantage of sales can go a long way in ensuring that your printer will be working with high quality whenever it is needed!

The History of Epson & Epson Printers by Brenda Stokes

Epson has been around over one hundred years, beginning their success with watch-making that led to the first quartz watch. Over time, the company has evolved into the printer manufacturer of today.

In 1881, K. Hattori & Company was established as a trading company for clocks and watches. From this came the Seiko Group which had Suwa Seikosha as a part of it is what Seiko Epson evolved from over time.

However, Seiko Epson, as they were called in the 1960’s, was not quite in the printer market as of yet, developing crystal chronometers and timers for the timekeeping to be done at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. The first printer mechanism was soon to follow, called the EP-101. Soon to follow was the invention of the first quartz watch in 1969.

Since then, Epson has been on the forefront of many technological breakthroughs including the first digital wristwatch. But in 1975, Epson started to create office equipment to meet the demands of the American electronics market. As the personal computer rose in popularity in the late 70’s, the MX-80 was released by Epson to provide a reliable Epson dot matrix printer at a price that was reasonable in comparison to the computers at the time. Quickly becoming the industry standard, Epson had about 60% of the dot matrix printer market because of this one product alone according to the Epson website.

With the notebook computer in 1982 and the color inkjet printer for your desktop in 1994—the illustrious Epson Stylus Color—Epson has never let down and never backed off of the marketplace. Epson America now leads the way for digital imaging products in the Americas, offering ink jet printers, dot matrix printers, scanners, projectors and more. They also are a part of the EPA, and support the Energy Star Program since it began in 1993.

The History of Canon by Brenda Stokes

Established in 1933 by Goro Yoshida and Saburo Uchida, Canon began as company called Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory. In the company’s beginnings, their major goal was to develop a 35mm camera. In 1934, the Kwanon camera was released yet it never actually hit the marketplace.

Due to their inability to develop a lens of their own, the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory used one from Nippon Kogaku Kogyo, the predecessor company of Nikon Corporation. Three years following the initial start up of the company, the Hansa Canon was released in 1936 to the public. The following year, Canon as we know it today was founded.

Nowadays, Canon makes cameras, printers, copiers and many other office products and their most profitable area involves the sale of digital copiers for offices. It’s funny because most people think of their cameras before their office products, but numbers don’t lie!

Besides its current financial strongholds, Canon is still venturing out into new avenues all the time. They are currently forging ahead into the digital display field and have since bought the shares Toshiba had in a joint venture for the manufacture of flat panel television screens.

Did You Know

- Canon makes and supplies the print engines used in many Hewlett-Packard products, specifically the LaserJet laser printers so often raved about.

- The company name, Canon, was chosen because it was so similar to the name in Japanese of their debut product, the Kwanon.

- Canon is currently working on rear-projection displays.

Even companies that have been around many years can still grow and change with the times. So far, Canon has been very successful at doing just that.

The History of Brother by Brenda Stokes

Here’s something you probably didn’t know: Brother started out as a sewing company? Yes, you heard right. Brother had its start back in 1908 as Yasui Sewing Machine Co, founded by Kanekichi Yasui in Nagoya, Japan. And a few years later, the company was renamed Yasui Brothers’ Sewing Machine Co. The sewing machines sold and the company became Nippon Sewing Machine Manufacturing Co in 1934.

By 1954, Brother International Corporation, as they were now called, began exporting the sewing machines overseas with much success. This success continued for several years with many advances in home appliances and knitting machines. However, the Brother of today really came on the scene in 1971, when they created the very first high-speed dot matrix printer.

Electronic typewriters were next in 1985 and the focus began to shift to more business oriented products and devices. Telecommunications and electronic stationary were even on the bill as Brother progressed through the twentieth century.

And even as the company progressed into the twenty-first century, Brother was still cranking out the sewing machines under various subsidiaries including Zhuhai Brother Industries Co., Xian Typical Brother Industries Co and Brother Sewing Machine Xian Co to name a few.

In 2003, Brother began producing multi-function devices. Recently expanding into China, Brother is still in the forefront of printer sales. And you can’t forget about those sewing machines! Over the years they have produced all sorts of products such as label printers, typewriters, machine tools, fax machines and other computer products. While their products are distributed under the Brother name they are also distributed as OEM products with other companies.

The History of Lexmark by Brenda Stokes

In 1991, Lexmark was born as a branch off of IBM’s print sector. They make and distribute printers and printer products and accessories to this day and are located in Lexington, Kentucky. However, there are many other offices for Lexmark all across the world. In 1994, all IBM insignia were removed from Lexmark printer products as the company had made a name for itself and was successful on its own. The company went public in 1995.

Lexmark’s primary products include laser, inkjet and dot matrix printers. Both monochrome and color models are available, including Lexmark all-in-one printer, copier, scanner devices. Models for home use and larger corporations are available.

With over 13,000 employees across the world and 4,000 at their headquarters alone, Lexmark has come a long way from its birth in the early nineties. They currently make third-party products for other companies including Dell. With $5.2 billion in revenue in 2005 alone and as a current Fortune 500 company, it is no wonder why Lexmark is one of the leading printer companies in the world.

Lexmark was the first company to offer an inkjet printer for under $100 and were also the first to promote a 4800 x 1200 dpi and a 3600 x 1200 dpi resolution. Keeping on the trend of “firsts” they were also the first company to make a photo printer that could work on its own as a standalone model.

They are always on the look out for ways to expand the market for printing, including affordable printer models and even all-in-one models. Lexmark also works hard to make sure the latest products such as digital imaging devices are incorporated and fully usable with their printer products.

Creating More Festive Holiday Postage By: Matthew Grant

A large number of people, even those that count the days until the holidays, decide that making out Christmas envelopes is a chore. This article explains a fun idea to change that and turn writing Christmas envelopes more exciting for you as well as for all the recipients on your Christmas card list. Business associates, customers, neighbors, friends, and relatives will get an extra kick out of finding your Christmas envelopes in the mail when you customize the items.

Due to modern web based capabilities, customizing Christmas greeting cards and postage stamps is simple. These days, you are no longer restricted to choosing cards and then looking everywhere for / hoping for similar postage stamps from the postal system. You can now purchase your postage stamps and Christmas greetings from the same site to ensure a perfect and identical fit.

Even more exciting than that, consumers now can customize both the cards and the postage stamps. Imagine the impression you will make on all your card recipients when they get a postage stamps with a picture of a holiday gift tag on it that actually shows your name filled in in the "from" section. Imagine how cute it would be to include a picture of your own animal on a postage stamp inside a snow globe design. Ideas like these are simply realized on a customizable postal stamp Internet site like ArtisticPostage.com. As a matter of fact, with templates already in place, you could make fun postage stamps like those mentioned above before you know it.

Of course, most people write individual messages inside of their Christmas cards for each individual on their card list. Technology and creativity now make it possible for you to utilize the same idea to and take it to the next level by having persona messages printed professionally as part of the greeting card itself. Technically, people have been able to make their own cards on their personal computers at home for roughly the last ten or so years provided they had a color printer and access to a certain sort of paper. Even so, the quality of home-printed cards is nowhere near the quality of those printed on professional printers.

When planning your own card, there are two options. You can start with a blank template if you like or you can find a basic design already done by an expert and then personalize it to your tastes from there. If you're already super creative type, then you will like making your card from the ground up, so to speak. Most Christmas web surfers will be thankful that they can start with a template making use of professional design work or photos as the building blocks of their creation and simply add fun creative touches to make the card original.

The unique Christmas cards and postage that you give as part of a present or as seasonal communications will be something that the recipients will treasure. People often say that the sweetest sound a person can hear is his or her own name so it it's sensible that being given personalized items is equally as pleasing to the eye.

The Christmas season is a perfect time of year to give one of a kind gifts. Due to the ease of the personalization process, making customized Christmas greetings and postage stamps is as enjoyable for the person making them as it is for the person receiving them.

Canon Ink Cartridges: Where Are They Now And Where Did They Come From? By: Andrew James

During the 70's a discovery was made by Canon researchers who found that when a soldering iron accidentally touched an ink filled syringe there was a resulting expulsion of ink as a stream creating the beginnings of their 'Bubble Jet' technology. It took several years to actually bring this to life and in 1985 they began to sell printers utilising this new technology. Since then further research has improved technology of the the inks to the point where the quality was referred to as 'near photo' quality comparing the standard of a photo taken with a camera using film (now becoming obsolete with the popularity of digital cameras) to that of what the printer was capable of doing using special photo quality paper.

Ongoing developments were also made to the the actual cartridges themselves improving the ink delivery systems and introducing such innovative concepts as small heaters attached to the nozzles of the printhead and experimenting with varying the size of the ink droplets. In addition to working on better technology of the inks and the cartridges themselves the printers also benefited from the continuing research so that new models started appearing combining other functions such as fax, copy, scan, CD/DVD labelling and better media handling abilities.

The Present...
Canon currently divides their inkjet printers into 2 main categories being the Pixma series suitable for the majority of home/office users and their Large Format Printers.

Pixma Series Inkjet Printers - Under the dashboard

'Ink Cartridges aint Ink Cartridges'
The Pixma series of printers utilises 8 separate ink tanks meaning you dont have to change the entire cartridge because one color has run out as is the case with machines using other types of cartridges. The actual printhead itself sports an impressive 768 nozzles for each color (6,144 all together).

All manufacturers have faced the same challenge with inkjet technology in that ideally to achieve 'faithful image expression', meaning your picture actually looks like a picture with nice smooth edges etc, you need to have the cartridge spraying out very small ink droplets with exact placement on the page but the problem was always that as the droplets become smaller there was a tradeoff in quality and precision of placement. To combat this the most common technique in the past was to use more than one pass across the page but then there was a downside with this as well being a slower printing speed as the printer passes back and forth spraying out those microscopic size droplets and using many passes to achieve good quality and retain that true image.

Canons has adopted a new approach called FINE (short for Fullphotolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) utilising a a different ink ejection system and nozzle. As mentioned before when the ink droplets are large quality isnt really a problem but you dont get good image expression whereas when you reduce the size of the droplets you get problems with quality and also air resistance causes issues with the ink droplets being placed correctly. With FINE there is a new ink ejection system using bubbles formed at the tip of the nozzle and the nozzle also has a heater attached above the ejection opening. Canon states that the combination of these 2 features allowes for more uniform droplet size, faster droplet speed without being affected by airflow and more exact placement on the page.

Canons printhead for this range of machines also experienced some new technology using semi conductor manufactuering processes as the normal manufacturing methods werent suitable for the large number of nozzles Canon wanted to use. Basically 2 resins are used one after the other to form the nozzle and heater into a single wafer giving the manufacture of the nozzles semi conductor level precision over a large surface area without any requirement for the bonding processes generally used.

*Editors Note: It should be mentioned that of course other manufacturers such as HP etc all make similar claims about their 'ground breaking technology' and by the time you sift through the terminology they've all introduced for their technology its difficult to determine which is better than the other*

Media Handling for the Pixma Series
The media handling capabilities include a duplexing unit and document feeder and a tray guide to assist when its time to label all those CDs and DVD's that have been lying around for months.
